With technology changing the way people receive information, the Jefferson City Convention and Visitors Bureau (JCCVB) has redesigned its Web site to provide an insider's tale of Jefferson City to visitors and locals alike. The redesign was made in the hopes of making Jefferson City as interactive and exciting as possible for visitors.
JCCVB has teamed up with a local podcast producer, The Capital City Insider, to showcase the city's rich history. A podcast is a stream of audio that is pre-recorded and edited, almost an extension of a commercial. These media files provide interviews with experts in the attractions that spark an interest to the visitor. A tour of Runge Nature Center and its features is ready for audio on the Web site. Also available on itunes, visitors can download them onto their mp3 player and be their own personal tour guide, making them feel a part of this community. Visitors may listen to a featured podcast as well as view photographs at the JCCVB's downtown office.
The videos found on the site are courtesy of a St. Louis television station, KETC. The three that are on the Web site feature information on some of the historical aspects of the city, including Lincoln University.
An interesting addition to the site is a live chat between a staff member and a potential visitor. With two clicks, the conversation can get started. Among the questions that have recently peaked the interest of several travelers are the governor's mansion hours of operations, parking for Capitol tours, restaurants, local plays and the new Lewis and Clark monument at the Capitol.
With additional podcasts of historical markers coming soon, a visitor will know just as much about the history of Jefferson City as locals by visiting www.VisitJeffersonCity.com.
