The French Boys' Choir, Maitrese des Hauts de France, will present a free concert at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 10, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Wardsville.
The show, which will last about one hour, is one of only 15 concerts the group will be performing in the United States this year.
Since its creation in 1972, the choir has performed in many different countries.
The choir has sung in venues ranging from St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, where they sang for Pope John Paul II, to the White House in Washington, D.C. The group also has performed on numerous television and radio broadcasts.
The choir's repertoire normally includes a variety of songs from around the world. During the choir's last tour of the United States, selections included “Danny Boy,” “Amazing Grace,” and Handel's “Alleluia, Amen.”
The choir is comprised of boys and young men from schools, colleges and universities in and around Lille, in the north of France.
Members range in age from 9-20 and will be staying with host families within the community.
A free-will offering will be taken during intermission and a reception will be hosted in the parish gymnasium immediately following the concert, where programs and CDs will be sold.
“What a great opportunity to experience cultural diversity and the small size of our world,” said Father Greg Meystrik.
“This concert would make a great part of, what people now are calling, a ‘staycation,' to spend time in our own community, and to enjoy new experiences and to meet people from another part of the world without spending a lot of money or fuel to get there.”
