Published: Saturday, June 21, 2008 1:25 PM CDT
The annual Salute to America Fourth of July celebration in downtown Jefferson City attracts thousands of Mid-Missourians each year, and organizers are actively seeking people to participate in a variety of roles.

Businesses, organizations, crafters and not-for-profit groups may apply for booth space in the Westside/Eastside Business Association's Avenue of the Americas, located along Capitol Avenue, will operate from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Booth space is available for businesses and not-for-profit groups.

Groups providing free activities, giveaways or entertainment suitable for kids ages 1-16 may qualify for free exhibit space in the KRCG-St. Mary's Kid's Zone on High Street, which will feature a handicapped-accessible petting zoo, and camel and pony rides.

Other space available includes Jefferson Bank's Heritage Village, which features military displays, re-enactors and displays related to history and Socket pit row, featuring displays dealing with racing. Parents also may register children ages 4-6 in the River Region Credit Union/News Tribune Little Mr. and Mrs. Independence Contest. Registrations can be made the night of the contest, set for 6 p.m. July 3 at the DowntownJeffersonCity.com stage on Madison and High streets.
