With eight singers and one dancer, MoAART will review music from the 1950s to the present.
This is the directorial debut for Robin Freet, MoAART president.
“It's been fun going through the decades,” Freet said of selecting what to include in the show.
They began with 10 different genres and soon discovered they were heavy on the soul and rhythm and blues side. So they researched the billboard charts and other online resources to select the most representative tunes.
Then she chose voices that would best capture the flavor of each song.
Like, “Sweet Love” by Anita Baker from the 1980s will be sung by Freet's mother and founder of MoAART, Regina Divine. Other tunes will reminisce Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Sam Cook and Alicia Keys.
Freet also will perform, including “One Last Cry” by Bryan McKnight from the 1990s.
“Once I'm up there (on stage), I will be fine,” she said. “It's almost a gateway.
“On stage, It's my voice, not me, I don't care about anything else.”
Narration and impersonations will add a dramatic flare to the music review, as well as historical information about current events of the time and how the music has changed, Freet said.
“There will be a little bit for everybody to enjoy,” Freet said. “Plus, we'll put our own twist on it, with a little bit of comedy, a little bit of characterization.”
The cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children ages 12 and under.
