July 31 is the deadline for proposing names for Lincoln University's new dormitory, now under construction at 800 Locust St.

Nominations must be submitted in a formal written letter, with supporting documentation, to the Chair of Naming the New Residence Hall Committee, in LU's Design and Construction office.

The address is Young Hall Room 309; P.O. Box 29; Jefferson City, Missouri 65102-0029.

More information, and the nominations criteria, are available on LU's Web site, at www.lincolnu.edu/pages/192.asp.

General guidelines established by LU's Board of Curators include:

“I. Buildings, rooms and special use facilities may be named for:

“A. An individual or individuals deserving special recognition for a significant and substantial financial contribution toward the construction of the facility which otherwise would not be available.

“B. A former faculty member or administrator who has given outstanding service to the University and/or has made noteworthy contributions in his/her profession or area.

“C. An alumnus or former student who has given outstanding service to the University and/or has made noteworthy contributions in his/her profession or area.

“D. A former member of the Board of Curators who has distinguished and outstanding service to the University.

“E. Any individual who has received national or international recognition/distinction in a service or profession related to the use and purpose of the facility.

“II. Classroom facilities, administration facilities, and residence facilities shall use the term “Hall” in the name.”

" Dr. Charles Hoard and Dr. Chick Pulliam were two superb Lincolnites whom I will always admire. Both were not only brilliant in their own way but also men of courage. Both put down roots in Cole County and raised wonderful families here. They were true gentlemen.

Or they could just call it "York Hall" in honor of the famous explorer honored by statuary elsewhere in J.C. "

" How about: " Stuck in the 20th Century Hall "
or School of Champions" after their tremendous athletic dept. "
