According to the sheriff's department, a man described as a 30- to 40-year old white male with a scruffy beard, wearing a green hunting jacket with a hood, a ball cap and carrying a rifle, entered the home of Robert and Cynthia Metcalf and fired several shots and Robert.
The incident, according to officials, occurred when the suspect knocked on the door of the residence stating his boat had broken down. When Robert went to get a telephone for the suspect, he entered the home and fired several rounds.
The call was received around 9:40 p.m. by Cynthia, who said the suspect had pointed the gun at her and she locked herself in the bedroom.
After the suspect allegedly shot Robert, he fled the home and is believed to have left the area in a boat.
The Missouri Water Patrol assisted with a search but rainy weather forced the search to cease.
The incident occurred near the 24-mile marker in the Putt-N-Bay Drive area.
The victim was taken by ambulance to the Lake Regional Hospital where he underwent surgery. Saturday morning he was listed in stable condition.
Anyone with information or who may have seen suspicious activity is asked to contact the Camden County Sheriff's Department at (573) 346-2243.
