Woman celebrating 108th birthday, will be honored on Today show

A long-time resident of Jefferson City, she taught social studies at Simonsen Junior High for 37 years before retiring in 1965. After leaving the school system, she obtained her real estate license and worked for the Kolb Company for the next five years while taking care of her mother.
In 2000, Schweer moved to Oak Tree Villas, where she currently resides.
Her birthday will be honored on the Today Show on Wednesday between 8:30-10:00 a.m., during the century birthday portion of the show.
On May 21, Central Missouri State University will honor Schweer, their oldest living graduate, with a plaque presentation.
Schweer was born in Windsor, a daughter of George and Elizabeth Schweer on May 13, 1900.
She had eight siblings. Her father organized the first telephone company in her home town.
As a senior in high school, she took teacher's training classes and passed the county exam to obtain her teaching certificate. She taught fourth and fifth grades in school at Clinton.
Schweer applied for and received a scholarship to attend William Woods University and taught children in Fulton while attending college. She received an associate of arts degree.
She attended Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg to receive her bachelor's of science degree in education. She also taught in Odebolt, Iowa, before moving to Jefferson City in 1926.
Schweer is a longtime Disciples of Christ member, first in Windsor and then Jefferson City. She set up a ministerial scholarship at the First Christian Church that has helped several young men on their path to ordination.
She was active in the Women's Club and was a long-time supporter of Girls' Town. She has been inducted into the Century Club of Missouri Retired Teachers, is a 50-year member and past president of the Jefferson City Art Club, a past president of the Jefferson City Retired Teachers Association, a docent at the Cole County Historical Society, a 74-year member of P.E.O. and a supporter of the First Christian Church mentor program with East School.
