At a meeting of the JCTV Steering Committee Wednesday night, Gloria Enloe talked with members about strategies for the rebirth and revival of the station. Enloe is a graduate of LU and worked at JCTV and KJLU radio.
“The station has a lot of potential,” she said. “I want to bring a new, youthful perspective to the station. We have to figure out the pulse of the community and have shows that will make students want to become involved.”
As far as programming, Enloe said she would have JCTV strive to enter into joint projects with local community events to create interest and viewership. This could include a Little Theater Preview Show, the Mid-Missouri Story Telling Festival and other Missouri River Regional Library events.
Enloe also wants to work with Lincoln University faculty and students to create more original programming, including perhaps a Spanish-education show aimed at children.
Work is also being done to display a JCTV programming schedule not only on Channel 3, but also on a JCTV Web site that could be linked to the city's Web site.
As far as getting more funds for JCTV, Enloe said she plans to work with local businesses and corporations to solicit underwriting for the station. She also said she's looking at initiating a spring pledge drive or other fundraiser and then hold regular spring and fall pledge drives after that.
When asked if she realized she may have to overcome some old mindsets on the way things have been done in the past at the station, Enloe acknowledged that and said that so far people have been receptive to her ideas and students seem excited with the possibility of doing more. She noted that both Mayor John Landwehr and LU President Dr. Carolyn Mahoney have been encouraging her to move forward with new ideas.
Committee members are hopeful that the city's cable TV provider, Mediacom, may be more willing to help with funding for the station if they see that programming has improved.
