Blair Oaks owns state's second-longest winning streak

Published: Tuesday, March 25, 2008 2:37 PM CDT
AUXVASSE - The Blair Oaks Falcons won their 31st straight game on Monday, a 7-1 decision over North Callaway, to move into second place on the all-time list for consecutive wins in Missouri high school history, according to the Missouri State High School Activities Association.

The Falcons were tied for second with Mansfield at 30 straight wins after beating New Bloomfield 6-1 last Thursday. Blair Oaks is now alone in second place and trails only Helias' state record of 56 straight wins set from 1987-89.

Andrew Pointer and Justin Kelly combined on a no-hitter to key the Blair Oaks' win.

Pointer went 5 2/3 innings to notch the victory, allowing one unearned run. He struck out seven and walked five. Kelly pitched the final 1 1/3 innings, striking out four and walking one.

Pointer also had two hits and two RBI for the Falcons, who play at Van-Far on Tuesday. Taylor Castillo had two hits and scored three runs, and Kyle Henke chipped in two hits.
