Four arrested at juice bar

Published: Sunday, March 2, 2008 1:47 PM CST
Four people were arrested Saturday night when deputies from the Cole County Sheriff's Department served a search warrant at a juice bar that employs exotic dancers.

Sheriff Greg White said the warrant was served at Golden Touch Jewelers, 403 Arden Dr., as the result of an investigation the department had been working on “for some time.”

He said the investigation centered around the promotion of prostitution.

Two men and two women were taken into custody and were being held at the Cole County Jail late Saturday evening. The warrant was served shortly after 6 p.m.

White said he couldn't comment on specifics of the case and he didn't want to identify the suspects until formal charges were filed.

More information about this investigation will be released as it becomes available.

So, as long as he abides by all laws (a stipulation of his existing bond) he should be allowed to keep his business open, until such time as he is convicted of the charges filed against him. "

I'm not ashamed of the fact that I have been to the Olde Un numerous times with my husband and attended many adult themed parties, to purchase things to spice up our relationship, I don't see any shame in that and I'll freely admit it. You shouldn't jump to conclusions about what people say...some of us actually say what we mean. I was simply detailing my experience with this man. "

" Wow-I don't try to make myself feel better by saying I went there to buy "gag gifts" and I never said that the Olde Un was clas-sier. The Olde Un is run more appropriately, as a business should be run. Of course no place that sells adult themed items/movies/etc are considered clas-sy b/c in today's society s-e-x isn't clas-sy (although to me, if it's a perfectly natural thing between two people who love each other..why isn't it clas-sy). I simply said I didn't know what I expected when I went there. Maybe I'm naieve, but I certainly didn't expect to be so creeped out (although, in hindsight...going into a mans house converted to an adult shop should have been a red flag for me). "

To buy adult toys or movies to enhance ones sex life at home between to consenting adults is one thing to push the stuff he was is a whole other thing. I dont judge anyone who goes into a "sex store" or goes to a strip bar that is their business as an adult but to try and sell sex is a whole other thing. "

Commonsense tells you there is a big difference in this area and a big field on a 500 acre farm. Same thing with leash laws etc. If you live in a heavily populated area in the county there needs to be some rules. Just so you know this is not only a problem here, there is a similar problem close to Joplin I think. They are fighting it tooth and nail also to keep it from opening there. "

I dont know what the answer would be Go fish, but I think a startin point would be to look at a business and ask does it add to or take away from the original character of the area. Clearly if you have homes in an area, a daycare would be appropriate business while this place wouldnt. You brought up in home tax places. While they may be busier during those months I doubt they have clients coming in all hours of the night etc. People would basically drop off paperwork and come back to get it when it was ready. "

Running a business is one thing,(like the ole dunn) but running one and prostituting is another (like Shakels). Im glad there gone and when the news said the neighborhood applauded that should mean more than anything. Great job CCSD and undercover's that were invoved. "

I don't know if he still lives there or not with all the new ventures he's started. Money was negatiated for sex between 2 employees by the owner. The Deputy's were told to bring alcohol and more money for tips. When this sex act occured with the sex toys then they were arrested. And with zoning laws, there won't be a legal way to say a house within a residential area can be used for a business, except for strip clubs. I know "juice bar", but let's call it what it is. First amendment won't let you cherry pick what businesses you want next door because you will be infringing on their freedom of expression. And given the way I was randomly approached at a local restaurant (see earlier post below), no "setup" was necessary...it was advertised quite openly, including a business card my friend and I were handed so we could remember her (stripper) name. But I think what's good for the goose is good for the gander, so should ALL small businesses be prevented from co-locating in a residential area, and if so, how many feet away? For example, also on West Main, houses converted to businesses in the middle of a block. It's more than a moral judgement. " And I am originally from a big city. I am a young retiree and so is my husband. And we are far from poor. It would be really close to me if it comes here. And as for the juice bar.....totally insane.
We had strip joints in my city but they were not in a residential setting. Thats the problem with JC and surrounding areas. Too many "grey" areas as far as the county goes. Boy, I can remember when I first moved here (in a very nice area in Cedar Hill School District), the first thing I was told was a certain public school figure's son was robbing homes, then there was the bust a block "

" I'm from Mayetta, Kansas, Pioneers. We have had a casino there for more than a decade. Know who attends? Retirees, old people and housewives. People you would never see in a strip joint. Don't believe me? Go into one at any time and look around. Anyway, that place shouldn't have been in a residential neighborhood. I'm glad they're coming down on him. Just my two cents. "

" A casino has nothing to do with this event. If so, we need to shut down the mo lottery now. Hold people responsible that break the law...period. Don't try to associate any other business with this. A crime can happen at any place, at any time... "

" Thank you to the Sheriffs office on this one! I cant believe anyone can actually condone a place like this being in operation especially in a residential subdivision where at least 1 or 2 daycares are also operating(which by the way were there before this place opened)Now if we can only get some zoning rules in place to prevent this type of issue from happening again in residential areas in the county. I pray that everything was done correctly so this sticks. "

" I really do not care if it was aset up, this lunatic owner , if you know him you know what I mean, offered to aloow his establishment to be of prostitution service to these under cover people, I'm sure they watched this going on before they did this , so they had probable cause on their side before they set the sting up. I do not care if we have this in Jefferson City personally , but this man does this in the confines of aneighborhood, totally unacceptable . I hope they take his house from him "

" I agree with Mark. It does seem a little suspicious that this place gets shut down after a few months of being open when there was so much controversy in getting it open in the first place. Either way, I'm glad it's shut down because it does not need to be located in a residential area where there are also pre-schools or daycares in the area. Still though... something seems funny on this one. "

" pioneers so let me see if i understand what you are saying if a casino comes more of these places will come...please take a look around they are already here...go to columbia you will see them there as well and there no boat there. People have to take responsibility for their own actions. That is part of being an adult. Way I see it this man did a service he group together the ones needing to be put away and made it easy to keep an eye open for something illegal going on for the police depts in our area and they got caught...way to go CCSD and JCPD "

" wizen, you will be suprised when the truth comes out on this. Well in this community it wont be a suprise too to many people. This is typical Jefferson city politics. "

pioneers wrote on Mar 2, 2008 8:12 PM:

" Anyone who doesn't realize a casino will result in more places like this being opened out in the county is living in la la land. The person who opened this establishment saw an opportunity to make money. Others will see the people going to the casino as potential customers, and will open more of these.

"

" A juice bar - exotic dancers - prostitution. But don't let a casino open, the wholesome atmosphere of the city may be lost.

I must be missing something here. "

wizen wrote on Mar 2, 2008 6:13 PM:

" I'm glad that local law enforcement are keeping an eye on this place. It's very concerning that this place of business is in a residential area, with little kids running around while these "customers" have their "juice" in this guy's converted garage. I hope the police routinely check IDs at that place. I wouldn't be surprised to find out there are people frequenting it who are on certain criminal offender lists. "

mark_von wrote on Mar 2, 2008 5:58 PM:

" Am I the only one here that see's a set up here? With all the publicity surrounding this thing opening, you had to know it would be a matter of time before law enforcement found a way to shut it down. "
