Among the speakers was Board of Curators President Greg Gaffke, who told the 184 graduates that “None of us travels alone. Never forget the many people who helped you get to where you are today.
“Remember your success is not always measured by your bank account, but by the size of your heart,” he said.
Gaffke also challenged the graduates to take on the responsibility of making things better in the world.
This theme continued with the commencement address by LU President Carolyn Mahoney who said she actually went to Google.com to find other commencement speeches to get inspiration for her remarks.
One of those was delivered by actor Alan Alda in which he addressed the graduating class in which his daughter was in. Mahoney said Alda told the graduates they needed to be bold movers and have the nerve to go into unexplored territory.
Mahoney also took time to congratulate graduates that were part of the ROTC Commissioning Ceremony and the pinning ceremony for nursing graduates that took place Friday.
“Do what you love,” she said. “Remember Lincoln University and all the experiences you have had here. Think carefully about the choices that you make. Your accomplishments inspire me that you will find ways to serve a bright future.”
