McHenry one shot back at Missouri Amateur

Published: Wednesday, June 20, 2007 12:00 AM CDT
Jefferson City's Conner McHenry shot a 3-under-par 69 to put himself one shot out of the lead after the first day of the 100th Missouri Amateur Championship.

McHenry, who just completed his freshman year at Wichita State University, trails Ben Wood of St. Louis by a stroke in the event being held at Jefferson City Country Club.

The championship will feature another round of stroke play on Wednesday before the field of 156 is cut down to 64 for match play. There will be two rounds of match play on Thursday before two rounds on both Friday and Saturday, followed by a 36-hole final on Sunday.

McHenry is the top area player in the event, although Jefferson City's Kirk Farmer is not far behind after posting an even-par 72 to put himself in a group tied for sixth.

Also in the event, Jefferson City's Jay Schnieders and Gerald Siemons are tied for 37th after posting 3-over-par 75s.

Jefferson City's Brad Thielemeier and Stefan Ballage are among a group tied for 78th with 7-over 79s, while Lohman's Mike Winter and Jefferson City's Shawn Edgar are tied for 98th with 8-over 80s.
