JCPD gets grant to continue overtime pay for traffic safety enforcement

Published: Friday, October 28, 2005 12:00 AM CDT
The Jefferson City Police Department has been awarded a $13,440 grant to help pay officers overtime to work various traffic safety enforcement details.

The Hazardous Moving Violations grant by the Missouri Department of Transportation, Division of Highway Safety, is a continuation of a $20,800 grant the police department received for 2005.

That grant, which was in effect from October 2004 to September 2005, paid for 6661/2 hours of overtime worked by JCPD officers. In that time, officers made 1,160 traffic stops and issued 1,334 citations and warnings.

Officers will primarily target speed and red light enforcement and well as DWI violators.

Officers also will ticket for seat belt and child restraint violations.

The grant will allow police to have extra officers during national and statewide traffic enforcement initiatives such as Click It or Ticket and National Work Zone Awareness Day.
